This guide shows you how to create a bootable USB drive for installing or repairing Windows. These steps are safe and work on all modern versions of Windows.
What You Need
- A USB drive (8GB or larger)
- A working computer with internet access
- The Windows installation files or ISO
Using the Windows Media Creation Tool
- Download the Media Creation Tool
- Run the tool and accept the license
- Select “Create installation media”
- Choose your language and Windows version
- Select “USB flash drive”
- Choose your USB drive from the list
- Wait for the tool to finish
Using an ISO File
- Download the Windows ISO
- Use a tool to write the ISO to the USB drive
- Select the correct USB device
- Start the writing process
- Wait for the process to complete
Choosing the Right File System
- FAT32 — Best compatibility, required for UEFI boot
- NTFS — Works for larger files, but some systems may not boot from it
