Hardware Issues

This guide covers common hardware-related problems and the basic steps you can take to diagnose them. These checks require no special tools and help determine whether the issue is physical or software-related.

Check Power and Connections

  • Ensure the computer is plugged in securely and the outlet is working.
  • Verify that the power cable, monitor cable, and peripherals are firmly connected.
  • Check for loose or damaged cables.

Check for Overheating

  • Listen for unusually loud fans or sudden shutdowns.
  • Ensure vents are not blocked and the system has proper airflow.
  • Clean dust from vents and fans if needed.

Check for Failing Components

  • Look for unusual noises such as clicking (hard drive) or grinding (fans).
  • Check if the system freezes or crashes under load, which may indicate failing RAM or GPU.
  • Run built-in diagnostics if available (e.g., Windows Memory Diagnostic).

Check External Devices

  • Disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
  • Restart the computer to see if the issue persists.
  • Reconnect devices one at a time to identify the faulty one.
