iPhone Overheating

Your iPhone becomes unusually hot, slows down, or shows a temperature warning. Overheating can be caused by software bugs, background processes, or hardware issues. These steps help cool the device and prevent further damage.

1. Remove the Case

  • Cases trap heat and slow cooling.
  • Remove the case until the phone returns to normal temperature.

2. Stop Charging

  • Unplug the charger immediately.
  • Charging generates heat, especially with fast chargers.

3. Close Background Apps

  • Swipe up and close all running apps.
  • High‑intensity apps (games, GPS, video editing) generate the most heat.

4. Move to a Cooler Environment

  • Avoid direct sunlight, hot cars, or warm rooms.
  • Place the phone in a shaded, cool area.

5. Restart the iPhone

  • Hold Side button + Volume button → Slide to power off.
  • Turn it back on after 30 seconds.

6. Update iOS

  • Go to Settings → General → Software Update.
  • Updates often fix overheating bugs.

7. Check Battery Usage

  • Go to Settings → Battery.
  • Look for apps using excessive power.
  • Delete or update apps that consistently overheat the phone.

8. Reset All Settings

  • Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset All Settings.
  • This does not delete your data.

9. When to Seek Repair

  • iPhone overheats even when idle.
  • Device shuts down due to temperature repeatedly.
  • Battery health is below 80%.
  • Overheating started after a drop or liquid exposure.

If overheating continues after these steps, the issue may be related to the battery, power IC, or internal hardware. A technician can diagnose the exact cause.
