Android Mobile Data Not Working

If your Android phone’s mobile data is not working, won’t turn on, or shows “No internet,” this guide covers the most common causes and fixes. These steps help resolve SIM issues, APN problems, carrier outages, and phone settings conflicts.

1. Toggle Mobile Data off and on

A quick reset often fixes temporary data issues.

  • Swipe down the quick settings panel.
  • Turn Mobile Data off.
  • Wait 5 seconds, then turn it back on.

This refreshes your network connection.

2. Restart your phone

A reboot resets network services and often restores data connectivity.

  • Hold the Power button → tap Restart.
  • If frozen, hold Power + Volume Down for 10–20 seconds.

3. Check if Airplane Mode is on

Airplane Mode disables all mobile data connections.

  • Swipe down the quick settings panel.
  • Make sure Airplane Mode is turned off.

4. Check your signal strength

Weak or no signal prevents mobile data from working.

  • Look at the signal bars in the status bar.
  • Move to an open area or near a window.
  • Try switching between 4G/5G if available.

5. Check your data limit settings

Android may block data if you reached your limit.

  • Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Data usage.
  • Turn off Data Saver.
  • Check if a data limit is enabled.

If a limit is set, mobile data may stop working automatically.

6. Reseat the SIM card

A loose or dirty SIM card can cause data failure.

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Remove the SIM tray.
  • Take out the SIM card and inspect it.
  • Reinsert it firmly and restart the phone.

If the SIM is damaged, mobile data may not work at all.

7. Check APN settings

Incorrect APN (Access Point Name) settings prevent data from connecting.

  • Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile network → Access Point Names.
  • Select your carrier’s APN.
  • If missing, add the correct APN from your carrier’s website.

APN settings control how your phone connects to your carrier’s data network.

8. Try switching network modes

Some areas have poor 5G or 4G coverage.

  • Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Mobile network.
  • Change Preferred network type to:
    • 5G/4G/3G (Auto)
    • 4G only
    • 3G only (older phones)

Switching modes can restore data in weak‑signal areas.

9. Reset network settings

This resets Wi‑Fi, mobile data, and Bluetooth settings to default.

  • Go to Settings → System → Reset options.
  • Tap Reset Wi‑Fi, mobile & Bluetooth.
  • Restart the phone and test mobile data.

This does not delete personal data — only network settings.

10. When it’s likely a carrier issue

  • No data on all phones using the same carrier.
  • Outage reported in your area.
  • Your plan ran out of data.
  • Account suspended or SIM not activated.

Contact your carrier if these apply.

11. When it’s likely a phone hardware issue

  • No signal even in strong‑coverage areas.
  • SIM card not detected.
  • Phone was dropped or exposed to water.
  • Mobile data toggle won’t turn on.

These symptoms point to a damaged antenna or SIM reader.
Professional repair may be required.
