Your iPhone screen is not responding to taps, swipes, or any touch input. This can be caused by software freezes, low memory, or touchscreen hardware issues. Try these steps to get the screen working again.
1. Force Restart the iPhone
- iPhone 8 or newer: Volume Up → Volume Down → hold Side button.
- iPhone 7: Hold Volume Down + Power.
- iPhone 6s or older: Hold Home + Power.
This forces the device to reboot without erasing data.
2. Remove Case or Screen Protector
- Thick or poorly fitted protectors can block touch input.
- Remove them and test the screen again.
3. Clean the Screen
- Wipe the screen with a soft, dry cloth.
- Moisture, dirt, or oils can interfere with touch detection.
4. Let the iPhone Cool Down
- If the device is hot, the touchscreen may stop responding.
- Turn it off and let it cool for 10–15 minutes.
5. Disconnect Accessories
- Unplug chargers, headphones, or adapters.
- Faulty accessories can cause touch issues.
6. Update iOS
- Go to Settings → General → Software Update.
- Touchscreen bugs are sometimes fixed in updates.
7. Reset All Settings
- Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset All Settings.
- This does not delete your data.
8. When to Seek Repair
- Screen still doesn’t respond after a force restart.
- Touch works only in certain areas.
- Screen stopped responding after a drop or liquid exposure.
If the screen remains unresponsive, the issue may be related to the digitizer, display connector, or internal hardware. A technician can diagnose the exact cause.
