iPhone Overheating

Your iPhone feels unusually hot, shows a temperature warning, or slows down due to heat. Overheating can be caused by apps, charging issues, or environmental conditions. Try these steps to cool it down safely.

1. Remove the Case

  • Phone cases trap heat and slow cooling.
  • Take the case off until the device returns to normal temperature.

2. Stop Charging Immediately

  • Charging generates heat, especially with fast chargers.
  • Unplug the cable and let the phone cool for 10–15 minutes.

3. Close All Background Apps

  • Swipe up from the bottom and close all running apps.
  • High‑intensity apps (games, video editing, GPS) generate the most heat.

4. Move the iPhone to a Cooler Environment

  • Avoid direct sunlight, hot cars, or warm rooms.
  • Place the phone in a shaded, cool area.
  • Do not put it in a fridge or freezer.

5. Turn On Airplane Mode

  • Disables radios that generate heat (Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, cellular).
  • Helps the device cool faster.

6. Restart the iPhone

  • Press and hold the Side button + Volume button.
  • Slide to power off, wait 30 seconds, then turn it back on.

7. Check for Problematic Apps

8. Update iOS

9. When to Seek Repair

  • iPhone overheats even when idle.
  • Device shuts down frequently due to temperature.
  • Battery health is below 80%.
  • Phone gets hot while charging with official Apple accessories.

If overheating continues after these steps, the issue may be related to a failing battery, power IC, or internal hardware. A technician can diagnose the exact cause.
