Your AirPods won’t connect to your iPhone, or they connect briefly and then fail. These steps help fix pairing issues between AirPods and iPhone.
1. Make Sure Bluetooth Is On
- Settings → Bluetooth → make sure it’s enabled.
- If it’s stuck or unresponsive, restart the iPhone.
2. Put AirPods Back in the Case
- Close the lid for 10 seconds.
- Open the lid and hold the case near the iPhone.
- Wait for the setup animation to appear.
3. Forget AirPods and Re‑Pair
- Settings → Bluetooth → tap the “i” next to your AirPods.
- Choose Forget This Device.
- Put AirPods in pairing mode (hold the back button until the light flashes white).
- Reconnect them from the Bluetooth list.
4. Clean the AirPods and Charging Case
- Dirt on the charging contacts can prevent pairing.
- Wipe the bottom of each AirPod and the inside of the case.
5. Reset the AirPods
- Put AirPods in the case → close lid for 30 seconds.
- Open lid → hold the back button for 15 seconds until the light turns amber, then white.
- Reconnect to the iPhone.
6. Update iOS
- Settings → General → Software Update.
- Install any available updates.
7. When to Seek Repair
- AirPods won’t enter pairing mode (no white flashing light).
- Only one AirPod connects consistently.
- AirPods disconnect immediately after connecting.
- Issue started after drops or water exposure.
If AirPods still won’t connect, the charging case or Bluetooth antenna may need inspection by a technician.
