These are the most common Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA) error codes — what they mean and how to fix them.

Error Code What It Means Fix
0x124 – WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR Critical hardware failure (CPU, GPU, RAM, PSU, VRM, or motherboard). Check temps, remove overclock, test hardware individually.
0x9C – MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION CPU detected a serious hardware fault (cache, bus, or voltage). Improve cooling, check PSU, inspect motherboard.
WHEA Logger Event 1 General hardware error reported by WHEA. Check system stability, test CPU/GPU/RAM.
WHEA Logger Event 17 Corrected hardware error (CPU, memory controller, or PCIe). Monitor frequency, reduce overclock, check cooling.
WHEA Logger Event 18 Uncorrected CPU error — often cache or core failure. Lower CPU overclock, check temps, update BIOS.
WHEA PCIe Error PCIe device reported a hardware fault (GPU, NVMe, NIC). Reseat device, try another slot, check PSU power cables.
WHEA Memory Error Memory controller detected corrupted RAM data. Test RAM sticks individually, disable XMP.
WHEA Bus/Interconnect Error CPU cannot communicate with chipset or PCIe devices. Reseat CPU, inspect motherboard socket, check VRMs.
WHEA Voltage Error Unstable power delivery detected. Check PSU, remove overclock, inspect motherboard power phases.
WHEA Thermal Error Overheating detected by CPU/GPU sensors. Improve cooling, clean fans, reapply thermal paste.
WHEA Internal Error CPU internal execution or microcode fault. Update BIOS, reset CPU settings, check temps.
