How to Transfer Files (USB / Wireless)

You can transfer files between your Android phone and a computer using a USB cable or wireless methods like Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi Direct, or cloud storage. This guide covers the easiest and most reliable ways to move photos, videos, documents, and other files.

1. Transfer files using a USB cable

USB transfer is the fastest and most reliable method for moving large files.

Step 1: Connect your phone to the computer

  • Use a USB‑A or USB‑C cable (depending on your phone).
  • Plug the cable into your PC or laptop.

Step 2: Change the USB mode

  • Swipe down the notification panel.
  • Tap the USB notification.
  • Select File Transfer (MTP).

If you don’t switch to File Transfer mode, your PC won’t see your files.

Step 3: Transfer your files

  • Open This PC on Windows.
  • Select your phone from the device list.
  • Open Internal storage or SD card.
  • Copy and paste files between folders.

2. Transfer files wirelessly (Wi‑Fi)

Wireless transfer is convenient when you don’t have a cable or want to move files quickly between devices on the same network.

Option A: Nearby Share (Android → PC or Android)

  • Enable Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi on both devices.
  • Open the file you want to share.
  • Tap Share → Nearby Share.
  • Select the receiving device.

Nearby Share works best when devices are close together.

Option B: Wi‑Fi Direct

  • Go to Settings → Connections → Wi‑Fi → Wi‑Fi Direct.
  • Select the device you want to connect to.
  • Use a file manager app to send files via Wi‑Fi Direct.

Wi‑Fi Direct is faster than Bluetooth and works without internet.

Option C: Cloud storage (Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox)

  • Upload files from your phone to the cloud.
  • Download them on your computer.

Best for transferring files when devices aren’t nearby.

3. Transfer files using Bluetooth

Bluetooth is slower but works on almost all devices without Wi‑Fi.

  • Enable Bluetooth on both devices.
  • Pair the devices.
  • Open the file → tap Share → Bluetooth.
  • Select the receiving device.

Best for small files like photos or documents.

Where transferred files are saved

  • USB transfers: You choose the folder on your PC.
  • Bluetooth transfers: Usually in Internal storage → Bluetooth.
  • Wi‑Fi / Nearby Share: Usually in Downloads.
  • Cloud storage: In the app’s synced folder.

Once transferred, you can edit, move, or back up your files as needed.
