PIN Not Working – Windows Sign‑In Fix Guide

If Windows won’t accept your PIN or shows errors like “Something went wrong,” this guide helps you reset or repair Windows Hello PIN authentication.

Common symptoms

  • PIN not accepted at login
  • “Your PIN is no longer available”
  • Windows Hello options missing

Possible causes

  • Corrupted NGC folder
  • Windows Hello service issues
  • Account password changed
  • Damaged login credentials

Fixes

1. Remove and recreate the PIN

  1. Settings → Accounts → Sign‑in options
  2. Remove PIN
  3. Restart
  4. Add PIN again

2. Reset the NGC folder

Fixes corrupted PIN data.

  1. Go to: C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC
  2. Delete all files inside
  3. Reboot and set a new PIN

3. Use password to sign in

Click “Sign‑in options” → choose password.

4. Check Windows Hello services

  • Windows Biometric Service
  • Credential Manager

5. Re‑add Microsoft account
