Smart Home Connection Check
Works for smart speakers, smart bulbs, thermostats, plugs, doorbells and other smart home devices. Work through each step to diagnose connection problems.

1What type of device and what is happening?▼What type of smart home device is this? What is the connection problem?
-
2Check your Wi-Fi and router▼
Most smart home devices use 2.4GHz Wi-Fi — not 5GHz. This is a very common setup issue.
Does your router broadcast separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks? If combined, try temporarily splitting them in your router settings — most smart devices need to connect to the 2.4GHz band specifically.
How far is the device from your router? -
3Restart the device and router▼Steps to try:
- Unplug the smart home device for 30 seconds and plug back in
- Restart your router — unplug for 30 seconds
- Open the device’s app and check if it comes back online
- Check the app for any firmware updates for the device
Did restarting help? -
4Check the app and account▼Is the companion app up to date? Are you logged into the correct account in the app?
Try signing out and back into the app — this refreshes the device connection.
-
5Factory reset the device▼
If nothing else works, a factory reset and fresh setup usually resolves persistent connection issues.
Have you tried factory resetting and re-pairing the device?Check your device manual or manufacturer website for factory reset instructions — usually a button hold of 5-10 seconds.
