   Activation can fail if the installed edition of Windows does not match your license, or if a product key has already been used on another device.

   If Windows came preinstalled on your computer, the license is often stored in the device firmware and may activate automatically after connecting to the internet.

4. 4 Run the Activation Troubleshooter ▼

   Windows includes a built-in troubleshooter for activation issues.

   1. Open Settings → System → Activation.
