If your Android tablet won’t turn on, don’t panic. Most power issues are caused by a drained battery, a frozen system, or a charging problem. Follow the steps below in order, starting with the simplest fixes.
1. Check the Battery and Charge the Tablet
- Plug the tablet into a working wall charger (avoid USB ports on computers).
- Let it charge for at least 20–30 minutes before trying to power it on.
- Look for signs of charging: battery icon, LED light, vibration, or screen flicker.
- If nothing appears, try a different cable, charger, and outlet.
2. Force Restart the Tablet
Sometimes the tablet is actually on but frozen on a black screen.
- Press and hold the Power button for 15–20 seconds.
- If your tablet has a Power + Volume Down combo, hold both for 10–15 seconds.
- Release the buttons and wait a few seconds to see if the screen lights up.
3. Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect the charging port for dust, lint, or bent pins.
- Check for cracks, swelling, or overheating.
- If the port is dirty, gently clean it with a wooden toothpick or compressed air.
4. Try Booting Into Recovery Mode
This helps determine if the tablet is truly dead or just stuck.
- Hold Power + Volume Up for 10–15 seconds.
- If the recovery menu appears, the tablet is functional but the system may be corrupted.
- Select Reboot system now using the volume keys.
5. Let the Battery “Wake Up”
If the battery drained completely, it may need time to recover.
- Leave the tablet plugged in for at least 1 hour.
- Do not try to turn it on during this time.
- After an hour, attempt a normal power-on.
6. Try Wireless Charging (If Supported)
If your tablet supports wireless charging, place it on a certified Qi charger.
A damaged charging port may prevent normal charging.
7. When to Seek Professional Repair
If none of the steps above work, the tablet may have a hardware issue such as:
- Dead battery
- Damaged charging port
