If your Android tablet says “Storage Full” or you can’t install apps, download files, or update the system, the issue is usually caused by large media files, unused apps, cached data, or system updates that need extra space. Follow the steps below to free up storage safely.
1. Check Storage Usage
Start by seeing what’s taking up space.
- Go to Settings → Storage.
- Review categories like Apps, Photos, Videos, Audio, and System.
- Identify the largest items first.
2. Delete Unused Apps
Apps can take up hundreds of MB or even several GB.
- Go to Settings → Apps.
- Sort by Size to find the biggest apps.
- Uninstall apps you no longer use.
3. Clear App Cache
Cached data builds up over time and can consume a lot of storage.
- Go to Settings → Apps.
- Select apps like browsers, social media, or streaming apps.
- Tap Storage → Clear Cache.
4. Delete Large Media Files
Photos and videos often take the most space.
- Open your Gallery or Files app.
- Delete duplicates, blurry photos, or old videos.
- Move important files to cloud storage or an SD card.
5. Remove Old Downloads
The Downloads folder fills up quickly with PDFs, installers, and documents.
- Open the Files app.
- Go to Downloads.
- Delete files you no longer need.
6. Move Files to an SD Card
If your tablet supports SD cards, use them to expand storage.
- Insert an SD card into the tablet.
- Go to Settings → Storage.
- Move photos, videos, and documents to the SD card.
- Some tablets allow moving apps to SD as well.
7. Use Cloud Storage
Cloud services help free up local space.
- Upload photos and videos to Google Photos, OneDrive, or Dropbox.
- Delete local copies once they’re safely backed up.
8. Clear Temporary System Files
Some tablets include built‑in cleanup tools.
- Go to Settings → Storage.
- Tap Free up space or Smart Manager (if available).
9. Remove Offline Content
Streaming apps store large offline files.
- Open apps like YouTube, Netflix, Spotify, or Maps.
- Delete downloaded videos, songs, or offline maps.
10. Check for System Updates
Updates may require extra space to install.
- Go to Settings → System → Software Update.
- If storage is too full, free up at least 2–4 GB before updating.
11. Factory Reset (Last Resort)
If storage issues persist even after deleting files:
- Back up your data first.
- Go to Settings → System → Reset → Factory data reset.
- This clears everything and restores full storage capacity.
12. When Hardware Is the Problem
Rarely, storage chips can fail, causing errors like:
- Storage showing incorrect size
- Files disappearing randomly
- Apps reinstalling themselves
- System updates failing repeatedly
In these cases, professional repair may be required.
Tip: Keeping at least 20% of your storage free helps prevent lag, crashes, and update failures.
