These are the most common Windows and hardware error codes caused by PSU failures — what they mean and how to fix them.

PSU Error Codes & Fixes

Error Code What It Means Fix
0x124 – WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR General hardware failure. Often caused by PSU voltage instability. Check PSU cables, test with another PSU, remove overclock.
0x9C – MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION CPU detected unstable or incorrect power delivery. Inspect PSU, check motherboard power connectors, test PSU output.
0x0 – Internal Hardware Error System encountered a fatal hardware fault (often PSU underload/overload). Check PSU wattage, test with known-good PSU.
0xA – IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Power instability caused device or driver failure. Check PSU rails, reseat power cables, inspect motherboard.
0xF – Hardware Cache/Bus Error Unstable power caused CPU/GPU cache corruption. Remove overclock, check PSU voltage stability.
Unexpected Shutdown (Kernel-Power 41) System lost power unexpectedly — classic PSU failure symptom. Check PSU, test wall outlet, inspect power cables.
Power Surge Detected Motherboard detected unstable or excessive PSU voltage. Replace PSU, check surge protector, inspect wiring.
PSU Fan Failure Warning PSU cooling failure — overheating risk. Replace PSU immediately.
12V Rail Undervoltage PSU cannot supply stable power to CPU/GPU. Replace PSU, check power cables, remove GPU overclock.
Overcurrent Protection Triggered PSU shut down due to excessive load. Check GPU/CPU load, verify PSU wattage is sufficient.
PSU Overheat Shutdown PSU exceeded safe temperature limits. Improve airflow, clean dust, replace PSU if overheating continues.
